Don't Ever Give-up...

Don't Ever Give-up... Adapt and overcome!

 

A few years back, a very close friend of mine had a successful home business, and he set himself a big goal: he would grow his home-based business to a million-dollar enterprise within 5 years, so it would then look after itself and he would have more leisure time. I was excited for him!

 

I would see my friend every month or so. At first, he was very driven. His goal would give him purpose : he had a clear vision of where he wanted to go.

The business progressed well, but then it suffered a setback:  He was now reaching for larger contracts, and other businesses he was competing with were already well established and financially stronger. They were therefore able to reduce prices to keep their clients, which put a lot of pressure on his business to reduce his prices to an unsustainable level.

Expressing Your Values

 

Have you ever wondered why you did certain things or undertook some projects?  The last time I set a goal of running a Sprint

Triathlon that required lots of training, I certainly asked myself that question a lot!

The triathlon was going to require me to swim a lot longer than I had ever done before...  On top of that, there was going to be a long bike course afterwards, followed by a grueling run!  I had run 5 km frequently, but never after having swam and biked that long...  

But almost anything is possible with the right support system in place (a sw
im coach for me!) and consistency in training.

Your Mind's Health

This week is mental health week, and it got me thinking what Goals can support a healthy mind?  It helps starting by asking the question: what is mental health?

I propose that mental health is the absence of mental problems but also when we have a feeling of well-being inside ourselves and when we feel in harmony with people around us in the various contexts of our lives: home, social, work, etc.

Productivity Boost

Our team at Goal Interceptor is constantly working to improve the functionality of the website and increase your Success Rate in establishing new Habits to reach your Goals.  

Here are major feature upgrades that will raise your Productivity, help you reach your goals (and see your progress) and maintain or improve your Life Balance:

Easier Dashboard Controls

The Dashboard has been improved to show you your Goals progress, as well as button next to the Goal titles to go directly to the Plan for that goal, or to the list of Objectives for that Goal.  No more need to use the main menu from the dashboard, the dashboard is where the action is!

New Habit Scheduling 

The key to successfully establishing new habits is regularity, which is now you now have to identify on what day of the week you plan on taking action. From the Goal Detail page, you will see the habits are shown next to a table with the 7 days of the week.  

If you have existing habits, go ahead and set times at which you plan on taking action for a specific habit.  The times per week (frequency) for that habit is calculated for you based on how many days have something indicated for time.

Goals Visual Indicators

The Weekly and Daily Pie Charts have been upgraded to a Bar Chart

  • The graph is still divided by Facets
  • The thicker vertical lines represent the total time allocation for a Facet
    • The Habit time commitment for each Goals are grouped by Facets
  • Green bar is for the weekly proportion of time allocation you have recorded
  • Skin bar is for the daily proportion of time recorded
  • Bars reaching the 100% line means time spent working on goals 
  • Equal bars means Balance in proportion time spent.

 Facets with no goals or no action are not shown on the graph. 

12 Dec 2012 - The colors for the dashboard have been updated:

  1. Red shows what requires more attention (less than 75% completion over the past 7 days)
  2. Purple for new tasks in their first week
  3. Green for tasks that are completed to 100% of their target for the past 7 days
  4. Blue for tasks you have done Today

We have also simplified and streamlined the Record Event form (accessed from the green arrow) so that it takes less time to record an event.

To get started very quickly. you can go ahead and define your most important Goal, the challenging goal what you really want to get started with.   You can name its facet on the go and return to define the whole facet view later on.

Online App for Simple and Effective Goal Tracking

It's been said often that a Goal worth doing is worth writing down.   

Using a tool to set your Goals will make it easier to define your Goals and their Action Plans, which should be specific objectives for the goal, and success habits you need to do regularly to get there.

  • After you define your Core Values, Goals can be defined and organized in a way that makes sense to YOU.  
  • You define the Habits that will move you along on a daily basis,
  • the Goal Interceptor App will give you access to your own control panel where you can view the status of your most important Goals and their Habits:

Your Life Information

  • See each of your Core Value and Goals, in order of priority you established
  • For each Goal, see the habits you identified as key, in order of how much they need to get done today
  • Color coded habits
    • Green Habits have been done today
    • Red Habits have less than 80% efficiency in getting done over the past 7 days, as compared to the taget you established.
    • Purple Habits are New habits which need more attention to get worked-into your daily schedule and become established habits. 

 

 

Goals Reports and Visual Feedback

 Clicking on the elements of the Dashboard gets things done (such as the green arrow to record) and gives you Visual reports and Graphs on your Progress with respect to:

  • Overall Goal Progress
  • Habits time spent, consistency and Journal
  • Balance between Work-Life or any other areas of your Life
    • Track actual time spent and compare to your Target

The Pure Goals Team is lead by Michael Codere.  He designed and created this website to help people achi

eve their Goals & feeling great at the same time.  Michael lives in Ottawa, Canada.  For the past 30 years, Michael has been an avid defender of Achievement, Life Balance and science-based tools and solutions to simplify achievement.  

Having worked with complex technology and large teams lead Michael to learn ways to manage complexity and simplify things to get good results:

Michael draws from a vast personal experience in fitness and rich family life, balanced with a busy professional life and business management.  Michael retired as a Canadian Air Force Aerospace Engineering Officer. During his service, he developed flight software for the F18 jet. While he worked on the software of this highly agile and complex aircraft, he envisioned a similar approach could be useful for personal Goal Setting.
